About

Why me?

Because teaching is a skill of its own, separate from making art. I studied speech-language pathology and special education alongside fine arts, so I can change a lesson's pace and materials to fit you — not the other way round.

Because my experience comes from the field, not from books. Heart to Heart Institute, art-therapy workshops at Hospital 57357, and hands-on work in interior design.

Because I never stopped painting. Someone who paints knows how to explain it. The work above is the proof.

Teaching

What you'll learn

I build each lesson around your level and your goal — from the first pencil hold to a finished piece.

Progressive colour study — coloured pencil

Drawing & painting

From line, proportion and shadow to colour theory. Step by step, and every student gets attention inside the group.

Curriculum

Six core modules

Each module has a finished piece on this page I teach from.

  • Academic drawingLine, proportion, perspective and shadow — the basis of any drawing.
  • Portrait studiesFacial features and proportion, and shadow until the face reads as solid.
  • Pencil & charcoalPressure control and gradation, building depth in black and white.
  • Watercolour & gouacheTransparent and opaque, layering, and control of water and edges.
  • Oil & acrylicMixing, layering, drying time, and light on canvas.
  • Colour theory & compositionThe colour wheel, contrast, and balanced placement of elements.

Method

How I run a lesson

A good artist masters the craft. A good instructor hands it over in order.

  • A plan for every sessionOne skill a lesson, and a piece to take home.
  • I demonstrate, then I come to youI show the group, then come to you while you draw.
  • Feedback you can use todayWhat worked, and the one step that improves it next session.
  • Tailored to each studentI set the pace and materials to your level, not the other way round.
  • Progress you can seeWe compare your pieces session by session, so you see the difference.
  • You leave with a portfolioAn ordered body of work fit for a study or job application.

Teaching examples

How we build a piece

The hardest step for a beginner: blank sheet to finished piece. I teach from these works, because seeing the stages beats talking about them.

01

The Ballerina — from pencil to stained glass

Instruments and piano keys around the dancer. I broke the drawing into cuttable pieces and chose glass tones that keep the original colours.

02

Classroom exercise — building a scene element by element

A beginner draws the whole scene at once and gets lost. Here they build one element at a time — learning composition and balance.

The exercise sheet — Coloured pencil on paper — six successive stages
The exercise sheetColoured pencil on paper — six successive stages
  • One elementThe sun alone — fixing the focal point first.
  • Adding massThe whole palm — reading shape and direction.
  • Cropping and framingPart of the palm — how the frame changes what you read.
  • The horizonThe shore — separating land from sky and building depth.
  • CombiningPalm on the shore — the element in its place.
  • The complete sceneAdding the house — a balanced composition.

The stages of any finished piece

The exercise above only teaches composition. Any complete piece goes through five stages.

  1. Idea and referenceWe start from a reference or a clear idea — composition is a decision, not an accident.
  2. Colour studyTesting colours and gradations on separate paper before committing any to the piece.
  3. Preparatory cartoonA full-size drawing: proportion and perspective in pencil, then ink and shadows.
  4. Transfer and executionWe transfer the drawing at the required scale and build it — where the preparation pays off.
  5. Review and finishingWe compare the piece to the first study — what worked, and what needs another session.
